Accommodation shortlisted for Best Student Housing award

The University of Hertfordshire’s student accommodation has been shortlisted for the Best Student Housing award at the 2017 College and University Business Officers (CUBO) Awards.

The CUBO Awards, run in association with University Business, are a yearly event which recognises the achievements of those working within the higher education industry. They showcase a range of services all dedicated to delivering an excellent student experience.

The College Lane campus student accommodation was one of three to be shortlisted for the Best Student Housing award by a judging panel of CUBO members.

High-quality accommodation

The University of Hertfordshire’s College Lane campus has undergone a significant transformation over the last three years and the development is the cornerstone of the University’s Estates Strategy.

Now home to around 3,000 students, the University wanted to create a genuine campus experience with students at the heart of the development. This includes creating community living which has been achieved by breaking down the accommodation into colleges of 500 bedrooms. There are also various social and communal areas across the residences with each having a large common room. Kitchens have also been built to cook and entertain, as well as a central social space, multi-use games area and 3G sports facilities.

The accommodation mix offers a range of seven room types available from budget to premium, including twin rooms, townhouses and studio rooms. The accommodation has a focus on social interaction, and the largest buildings are the townhouses where students share a large open plan living, kitchen and dining area with three floors above each containing four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Along with our partners, Uliving, we have created high-quality accommodation, social and sports facilities where students can both study and enjoy their time at University. Enhancing the student experience is at the forefront of everything we do at the University of Hertfordshire and to be nominated for this prestigious award is wonderful recognition of this.”

CUBO members will now vote for the winners online, and this will be announced at The CUBO Awards ceremony on Wednesday 28 June 2017 at the University of Kent.
